Our Story...

With a nod to the times when things were over engineered, overbuild, and created to be maintained, we use durable materials like solid brass, copper, aluminum, and Sterling silver for our tags and jewelry. With an appreciation for the beauty, character, and inconsistency of goods made individually, by hand, we enjoy creating useful products for pet owners that are original and unique. We’ve expanded our catalog into dog-themed home goods and decor. Whenever possible we use reclaimed and repurposed materials to breathe new life into things once serving in other capacities. In building our apparel line, we sought out articles of quality, durability, and performance, while working with local suppliers wherever possible.
We started The Baying Hound in 2018. With an appreciation for handmade goods, craftsmanship, and the traditions of old business where agreements would be made with a handshake; we began making hand-stamped pet ID tags. Some of the stamps we use once belonged to Adam’s grandfather from his career as a machinist at National ACME in Cleveland, OH in the 1940’s and 50’s.
In 2005, a couple of months after getting married, we adopted our first dog Hailey, from what was then Capital Area Humane Society in Columbus, Ohio. It became instantly clear that she was going to be much more than our pet as she quickly became a member of the family. Little did we know the trajectory of the course that this shelter dog would put us on. But as you can see she has shaped much of who we are today. Bringing Hailey into our family taught us so much about living, about ourselves, and solidified our appreciation of what dogs bring into the lives of their owners. Do you have a dog? Then you understand what I’m talking about… She made us passionate and purposeful. We became more or more active in our local animal rescue and welfare community.
Over the years we have adopted a number of dogs Hailey, Max, Wendel, Grover, Cooper, Zack, and fostered dozens more. It has been amazing to see how the dynamics changed as brought new personalities into our home and how each dog learned one and another.
